The Logistics Manager owns the safe, accurate, and efficient movement of products into and out of Plantworks Nursery. As a leadership-level role, this position provides Leadership, Management, and Accountability (LMA) for the shipping team; directs routing and delivery schedules; coordinates drivers and freight brokers; and ensures shipping, receiving, and fleet readiness to support customers and nursery operations.

Essential Functions

  • • Provide LMA for drivers and the shipping team: establish expectations, assign priorities, coach performance, solve issues, and hold the team accountable for results and safety.
  • • Build and manage efficient daily and seasonal delivery routes and schedules based on customer commitments, product readiness, vehicle capacity, geography, labor, and cost.
  • • Coordinate with drivers regarding assignments, route changes, paperwork, delays, customer needs, incidents, and safe operating expectations.
  • • Source, schedule, and communicate with freight brokers and outside carriers; confirm rates, capacity, pickup and delivery details, documentation, and service performance.
  • • Own shipping from order readiness through loading and dispatch; verify product, quantities, condition, labeling, paperwork, load sequence, and securement.
  • • Facilitate receiving by coordinating handoff to the appropriate nursery team.
  • • Schedule preventive maintenance for the box-truck fleet.
  • • Maintain accurate delivery, receiving, maintenance, inspection, fuel, and carrier records; monitor compliance requirements and ensure information is accessible.
  • • Track and communicate customer plant returns to the Sales and Growing teams.
  • • Partner with Sales, Production, Facilities, and Management to forecast needs, resolve constraints, improve processes, and communicate risks before they affect customers.
  • • Continuously improve shipping processes for safety, accuracy, efficiency, and service.
  • • Work with the Leadership Team to identify and resolve key issues.

Necessary Job Skills

  • • Demonstrate leadership and team-management ability, with clear communication, sound judgement, accountability, and calm problem-solving under changing conditions.
  • • Previous experience with routing, dispatch, delivery scheduling, shipping, receiving, fleet coordination, freight brokers, or a closely related logistics operation.
  • • Strong organization and attention to detail; able to prioritize competing customer, staffing, equipment, and production requirements.
  • • Working knowledge of safe loading, vehicle and equipment inspections, transportation documentation, and preventive-maintenance practices.
  • • Able to work across office, field, loading, and nursery environments; schedule flexibility and reliable transportation required.
  • • Valid North Carolina driver's license.
