The Facilities Supervisor leads and performs maintenance of Plantworks Nursery's buildings, greenhouses, equipment, vehicles, irrigation, utilities, and grounds. The role coordinates employees and contractors, maintains safe and reliable operations, supports nursery needs across departments, and responds to urgent issues outside normal business hours.

Essential Functions

  • • Plan and perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance; coordinate contractors for repairs, renovations, inspections, and construction projects.
  • • Maintain and repair trucks, tractors, forklifts, and other nursery vehicles and equipment; coordinate required annual inspections and service.
  • • Maintain greenhouse structures and systems, including poly and shade coverings, fans, louvers, electrical components, heating systems, pumps, injectors, production equipment, and generators.
  • • Maintain irrigation systems and lead improvement projects; monitor propane levels, generator cycling, and seasonal maintenance schedules.
  • • Administer tractor training for new and current employees; maintain training materials and complete documentation.
  • • Support nursery safety through inspections, required postings, hazard correction, and continuous-improvement recommendations.
  • • Maintain tools, parts, supplies, equipment sheds, and storage areas; run supply and fuel errands as needed.
  • • Maintain clear maintenance and repair records, annual work calendars, replacement schedules, and repair budgets.
  • • Communicate operational concerns to the Nursery Manager or Owner; complete Management Team projects and support grounds, roadway, weed-control, and beautification work.

Necessary Job Skills

  • • Demonstrate ability to lead, motivate, train, and direct employees; strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • • Practical technical knowledge of facilities, mechanical equipment, electrical components, irrigation, greenhouse systems, and preventive maintenance.
  • • Able to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
  • • Able to perform significant physical activity, including lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, walking, standing, and prolonged sitting; manual dexterity and schedule flexibility required.
  • • Available to respond outside normal business hours when on call.
  • • Valid NC Drivers License and ability to be insured by Plantworks Nursery.
